Description

Published by E. Acanfora in the monograph on the painter in 1994, this painting constitutes an important addition to the reconstruction of his body of work. The scant biographical information on Alessandro Rosi, to whom paintings previously attributed to Sigismondo Coccapani and Cecco Bravo have only recently been assigned, has hindered an accurate reconstruction of his artistic career. A student of Cesare Dandini, whose influence is clearly evident in our canvas, considered one of the typical examples of the painter, Rosi had as patrons not only the noble families of Corsini and Rinuccini but also Grand Duke Cosimo II de' Medici, who commissioned drawings for tapestries from him.
